POLY Science Cafe

Science Café held at Virginia Tech during 2014

The Virginia Tech Macromolecules and Interfaces Institute Student Committee hosted a Polymer Science Cafe funded by the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry in September 2014.  The event was held in front of Johnston Student Center at Virginia Tech and exhibited posters demonstrating how green polymers are changing the view on plastics.  The posters were catalysts to discussions with students about ways scientists are creating polymers from sustainable sources. Students appeared generally invested in the fate of polymer materials and the themes of sustainability and biodegradability resonated strongly with students of all disciplines.  The event was a success, with the goal of raising awareness of polymer science in the Virginia Tech community.   Special thanks goes to Scott Radzinski (MII Graduate Student) for organizing the event.
