What is a POLY Student Chapter?

A student run organization affiliated with the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry (POLY) and the Division of Polymeric Materials Science and Engineering (PMSE) that provides networking, career development and opportunities to students and post-doctoral associates in the Polymer field.

Types of events eligible for funding may be hosting speakers for a special symposium, holding a poster session with students from your chapter and other chapters in the same region, community outreach events to teach elementary or high school students about polymers, job fairs and other events which add value to your members or which help your chapter grow.

How do I start a POLY Student Chapter?

Student Chapter Grants

Starting in 2015 student chapter support from the POLY and PMSE divisions will require the completion of a student chapter report.

Chapter support will be based on the total active POLY and PMSE members in the student chapter (dual membership in POLY and PMSE by one student is counted as 1.5 students).

10 – 24 members: $200
25 or more members: $500

A one page narrative statement is also required describing the major activities and accomplishments of your chapter in the past year and the major planned activities and goals for your chapter in the upcoming year. The membership roster and the page narrative statement will also be used to determine the Best Student Chapter of 2014. This Best Chapter will receive an additional $500 award to be used towards chapter activities.

Download the student chapter report form and the roster spreadsheet.

Reports are due January 29th, 2016

Please send the completed reports and rosters to Sara Orski at sara.orski@nist.gov

Please note that for this year if student chapter members are ACS members, but not part of POLY/PMSE, we will enroll them with their permission and waive their first year of division dues.
