4th National Graduate Research Polymer Conference June 18 - 21, 2000

The ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry established the Graduate Research Polymer Conference to address the needs of graduate students in polymer science and engineering. This biennial event provides an opportunity for students in these fields to present results of their research and interact with other graduate students, faculty, and industrial scientists.

Registration

Registration is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, 3pm - 7pm. You will not have any problem parking in the lot adjacent building to our building on Sunday without a permit. You can pick up your permit at the registration table. Please keep in mind that the permit that you will be issued is for this parking lot only. If you park in another lot you may be ticketed. If you are staying in Campus Housing, you must come by the Polymer Science Research Center to pick up your housing keys. If you are not arriving during the regular registration hours on Sunday, please contact Laura Fosselman, and someone will meet you at the building.

Presentations: Oral

Each talk will be 20 minutes in length, equipment will be available for either overhead transparencies or electronic slide show(Microsoft Power Point 97 or 2000) only. Zip and floppy disks can be accommodated. You will be asked at registration if you will be doing transparencies or an electronic slide show. You will also need to check your presentation for compatibility with our equipment as early as possible. A viewing area will be setup for your convenience.

Presentations: Poster

A black felt display board, 4ft by 8ft, will be designated for each participant. The only restriction is NO VELCRO, push pins are recommended. Poster Session I will be held Monday, June 19, 5:00pm - 6:30p on the 3rd floor of the Polymer Science Research Center . Poster Session II is being held Tuesday, June 20, 5:00pm - 6:30pm, on the second floor .

Driving Directions

Entering Hattiesburg from US HWY 49 North

Take the 4th Street exit; turn right at the traffic light. At the very next light make a left onto Sunset Drive? The Shelby F. Thames Polymer Science Research Center is the first curbside building on your right. Reserved parking will be available in the back adjacent parking lot. Please make a right into the lot adjacent to our building. You will see a barrier that the attendant will open for you to enter. There is a "Graduate Conference Parking Permit" that will allow you to park in the reserved lot. Based upon your arrival time, you may not have a permit. To enter the lot, just let the attendant know that you are here for the conference. You can pick up your permit at the registration table. Please keep in mind that the permit that you will be issued is for this parking lot only. I f you park in another area on campus, you will be ticketed. If you are staying on Campus in our Residence Halls, you can park near the housing between 6p - 7a, and will not be ticketed. You may want to leave your vehicle in our parking lot.

Entering from the intersection of HWY 49 and Hardy Street:

The campus and its animated sign are immediately viewable from that intersection. Turn onto Hardy Street heading West. Immediately after the third traffic light, make a right onto 31st Street; the Conoco QuikMart will be on your right. At the second stop sign, make a left turn onto Montague. The first right will be the entrance into the reserved parking lot. You will see a barrier that the attendant will open for you to enter. There is a "Graduate Conference Parking Permit" that will allow you to park in the reserved lot. Based upon your arrival time, you may not have a permit. To enter the lot, just let the attendant know that you are here for the conference. You can pick up your permit at the registration table. Take the "University of Southern Mississippi" or "Hardy Street" exit. Travel east on Hardy Street. As you approach Trustmark Bank, merge into the left lane. Airport Transfer from the Hattiesburg Airport

The Conference will assist with transportation from the Hattiesburg/Pine Belt Airport to the Campus. Please email: gradconf@http://www.psrc.usm.edu/ as soon as possible. If needed, there will be transportation from the Cabot Lodge to USM, twice a day. Again, email: gradconf@http://www.psrc.usm.edu/

Yellow TaxiCab is also available for service, their phone number is 544-5090, approximate one way cost $20.00.

On-Campus Parking--Parking Permits

There is a "Graduate Conference Parking Permit" that will allow you to park in the reserved lot. Based upon your arrival time, you may not have it for Monday morning. Just let the attendant know that you are here for the conference so you can enter the lot. You can pick up your permit at the registration table. Please keep in mind that the permit that you will be issued is for this parking lot only. If you park in another area on campus, you will be ticketed. For those who are staying in our Residence Halls, you can park near the housing between 6p - 7a, without a permit.

If you are staying on campus in our Residence Halls, you must stop by the Polymer Science Research Center to pick up your keys. They are included in your registration packet. If you are not arriving during the regular registration hours on Sunday, please contact Laura Fosselman, and someone will meet you at the building.

On-Campus Housing: Rooms are reserved for on-campus Residence Halls Sunday through Wednesday.

Single Rate: $57 per person  Double Rate: $45 per person

All reservations have been prepaid. If you processed the lodging expenses with your credit card, you have been charged the nightly rate of $45.00. You will receive your receipt in your registration packet. If payment was processed by check, you will be reimbursed the difference. The hotel is located just minutes from the school. Please follow the directions listed for "Entering Hattiesburg from Hwy 49 North".

Call for Papers

The Division of Polymer Chemistry invites all graduate students and renowned experts in polymer science for an exchange of ideas and the opportunity to present their research. Prospective participants should submit an ACS-style abstract (150 word maximum) of their paper via email attached file to gradconf@www.psrc.usm.edu. Abstracts should be prepared in Microsoft Word  Sample Abstract .doc file (Macintosh users please transmit a "doc" file to be read on a PC ) or Corel WordPerfect and formatted according to the SampleAbstract

The deadline for submission of abstracts has been moved to April 25, 2000. Notification of acceptance of papers will be made by May 5, 2000.
 
 

Guide to Authors

Prepare abstract according to the format in the Sample Abstract.

Title should be all-caps with left justification.  After last word of title, skip two spaces and then list authorsí names with presenting authorís name in boldface.

After the last authorís name, list affiliation and address.  Commas should separate names, affiliation, and address.  Place a hard return after the address.

Leave one blank line and then type body of abstract.  Abstract body should be left justified with no indentation on first line.

Abstract body should be approximately 150 words or less.

The conference will be held on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Hattiesburg is about 120 miles northeast of New Orleans.
