The final program is available on the web. This will be the second meeting of this type. The first was held at Penn State in the Summer of 1994. The purpose is to provide an inexpensive opportunity for students to present their research work.

It is a long-held perception that graduate students get lost in the crowd at the national American Chemical Society (ACS) meetings and have little opportunity to interact with graduate students, faculty, and industrial scientists from other academic institutions and industry.

In an earnest attempt to resolve this problem, the Division of Polymer Chemistry of the ACS has established a biennial national meeting series focused for polymer science and engineering graduate students.

Plan now to attend this unique gathering of polymer graduate students!

Call For Papers

Join with other graduate students and renowned experts in polymer science for an interchange of ideas and an opportunity to present your research. You have until March 1, 1996, to submit your presentation abstract using the standard ACS short abstract form. You will be notified by April 15, 1996, regarding the acceptance of your presentation or a request for a poster presentation.

Preliminary Schedule

Sunday, June 23

7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Registration and Reception, Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center

Monday, June 24; Tuesday, June 25; and Wednesday, June 26

(Wednesday's session is only in the morning.)

8:30 - 11:50 a.m. Plenary lecture followed by student presentations

1:30 - 4:50 p.m. Plenary lecture followed by student presentations

Monday evening

5:50 - 7:30 p.m. Poster session and reception, place to be announced.

Tuesday evening

6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Picnic barbecue

An evening of good food, drink and conversation, plus an opportunity to meet everyone in an informal setting.

Location

The conference will be held on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia, which is about 40 miles southwest of Roanoke.

 

 

Accommodations

You may arrange for housing in one of the following ways:

You may stay in an air conditioned University residence hall Sunday through Tuesday for a total cost (includes meals) per person as follows:

Single room $94

Double room $84 (double occupancy only)

Single suite $109

Double suite $95 (double occupancy only)

Family members may stay for the same per person rate. There is no charge for infants, if you provide the bedding. You may list a preferred roommate on the registration form; otherwise, roommates will be assigned. If you request a suite, but one is not available, you will be assigned a room. The residence hall lodging package includes breakfast and lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and breakfast only on Wednesday. To register for the residence hall lodging package, complete and return the attached registration form with payment by May 23, 1996. Space may not be available after this deadline, so please register early.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center, Otey Street, Blacksburg, VA 24061- 0104, phone (540)231-8000. Again, you are encouraged to make your reservation early, since a limited number of rooms are available. The rates for the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center are $61 + tax for a single and $69 + tax for a double room per night. Please confirm room rate when making reservations.

Fee And Registration

A $50 fee for faculty and graduate students, and the $90 fee for industry participants, covers the conference, materials, reception, picnic, and poster session. It may be paid by check, money order, VISA, or MasterCard. To register, complete the attached form and return with payment to Virginia Tech by May 23, 1996. Registrations will be acknowledged.

Refunds will be made for cancellations received four (4) working days prior to the conference. After that, you or your organization will be held responsible for the fee. If you are registered, but cannot attend, you may send a substitute.

Vehicles parked on campus must exhibit valid parking permits. A parking permit will be sent to you with your registration confirmation.

Cancellation: The University may cancel or postpone any course or activity because of insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. If a program is canceled or postponed, the University will refund registration fees but cannot be held responsible for other costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines or travel agencies.
