Invitation & General Information
Pacific Polymer Federation (PPF) has been growing up in the past ten years since its foundation in 1987. PPF is now composed of 17 member organizations, which are the most active and important polymer oriented societies or organizations in the Pacific Basin. The objective of PPF is to encourage and facilitate the interaction between our member organizations and the scientific exchange among polymer scientists and engineers in the Pacific region. All the activities of PPF have demonstrated its important role, not only in the science aspects, but also in promoting the mutual understanding and friendship among peoples.
The prime function of PPF is to organize Pacific Polymer Conference, PPC, in sequence of every two years. We have already five PPC*s since 1989 in Maui(USA), Otzu(Japan), Gold Coast(Australia), Kauai(USA) and Kyongju(Korea), respectively. The 6th PPC is to be organized by Polymer Division, Chinese Chemical Society in December, 1999 in Guangzhou, China. We are very pleased to note that due to the effort of all the member organizations PPC is now well known as one of the important events for world polymer community.
As the president of the Council of PPF, I sincerely welcome you to attend the 6th Pacific Polymer Conference, an international forum for communication and discussion of new ideas and results and perspective for polymer science and technology on the Eve of the New Century.

Housing and Travel
Venue Guangzhou(Canton) is the biggest trading, industrial, cultural and tourist city in South China. As an ancient city, it has a history of more than 2800 years. Guangzhou is lush and green all the year around with flowers blooming in all seasons, thus to be named as *flower city*. It has a warm winter with an average temperature around 20*C in December. Guangzhou is also very famous for its Cantonese cuisine and food.
Transportation to Guangzhou and the Garden Hotel Guangzhou is a major entrance to South China, a lot of international and domestic flights directly to Guangzhou are available from Hong Kong, Osaka, Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Singapore, Jakarta, Manila, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Beijing, Shanghai, etc. The express trains from Hong Kong (Kowloon Railway Station) to Guangzhou are also convenient and spend about 2 hours (nonstop) only.
The Garden Hotel is in the centre of Guangzhou city, about 10 km away from Guangzhou Airport. When you arrive at the Airport, you can easily find a taxi there. It takes around US$ 3 in day time. The distance between Railway Station and Garden Hotel is around 4 km.
Accomodation
The 5 star Garden Hotel located in the centre of Guangzhou city has been selected for PPC-6 participants. The room rate is US$ 100 per night (twin or double), including breakfast, and no additional service fee and tax will be charged. There are Chinese, Japanese and western style restaurants in the Hotel. All events at PPC-6 will be held at Garden Hotel, and the organisers recommend that you stay at that Hotel. However, should you require other types of accommodation, please contact the Secretariat.
To secure and confirm your reservation, a one-night deposit (US$100) should be paid by sending an international money order in US Dollars payable to Prof. Xigao Jin, The Chinese Chemical Society. A notice of confirmation will be sent upon receipt of this deposit.
Currency
The Chinese currency *Yuan* can be purchased at foreign exchange banks, airport and hotel. Cash, traveller*s cheque and credit cards can be exchanged at the bank and hotel. The current exchange rate in cash is, dependent on time, around 8.1 Yuan/US$ in June, 1998.
Passport & Visa
All participants entering China must be in possession of valid passport. Please fill up the Visa Application Form enclosed and return it to the Secretariat before August 31, 1999. You will receive an Official Invitation Letter for your visa application. After that, please make an inquiry at the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate Office.

The registration fee for participants including entry to all scientific sessions, preprints, printed materials, reception, banquet, morning and afternoon tea/coffee. Banquet fee is not included in student registration.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
Any cancellation must be notified to the Secretariat in writing. The refund of the registration fee with the remittance charge deducted will be made as shown below.

Post-Conference Tours
1. A three day tour to Guilin (boat-trip on Lijiang River, half day trips to Reed-flute Coves, Fubo Hill, Elephant Trunk Hill, etc.)
2. A three day tour to Kunming (Stone Forest, West Hill, Huating Temple, Gold Temple, etc.)
Tour fare includes domestic airfare from Guangzhou to Guilin or Kunming, airport fee, all transportation, hotel accommodation, meals, sightseeing and entertainments, services of English-speaking guides.
Participants must make reservation on the Registration Form and then will receive the detail information later. Note: Please reserve your return flight from Guilin or Kunming to Hong Kong or others.
Call for Papers & Preprints
Final Call for Papers
Contributions of papers as oral or poster presentations for the program of PPC-6 in any area of polymer science and technology are being sought. Both oral and poster presentations carry equivalent scientific status in the program. To contribute a paper, submit the Title in the space provided on the Registration Form included in this Brochure before August 31, 1999. There will be a limit of one oral presentation per participant. The Program Committee reserves the right to schedule contributions of oral papers as posters if necessary.
The time allowed for oral presentations will be a total of 20 min, including introduction and 5 min for discussion. Each lecture venue will be equipped with a 35 mm slide projector and an overhead projector.
A 1000 mm width x 1600 mm height board will be allowed for each poster display.
PrePrints
The preprints will be prepared including the summaries of plenary, invited lectures and contributed papers as well. Each abstract can be a maximum of one page, including tables, diagrams and references and should be typed on A4 paper (297 mm x 210 mm). Abstracts should be written in English and provided in camera ready copy using a 25 mm margin on all sides. Abstracts should be laser printed using single spacing and Times New Roman font with 10 point size. The title(bold 12 point size), authors and affiliations(10 point size) should be centred with paper title in upper case. The name of the presenting author should be underlined. References should be indicated as superscript numbers within the text and appear at the end of the abstract. All tables and figures should be incorporated in the body of the abstract and should have individual captions.
The abstracts for the preprints should be mailed so as to reach the PPC-6 Secretariat by August 31, 1999. Do not fold the abstract and Do not send the abstract by FAX.
