1. INVITATION

I am very pleased to invite individuals all over the world who
are interested in the most recent progress in polymer science and
engineering to participate in the 5th Pacific Polymer Conference
(PPC-5), to be held on October 26 - 30, 1997 at Hotel Hyundai in
Kyongju, Korea.  This is the biennial polymer conference of the
Pacific Polymer Federation which has seventeen polymer associations
in sixteen countries in the pacific basin as members.

The PPC-5 will give you an opportunity to share and discuss ideas
and perspectives on polymer research and development among polymer
scientists in the world.  The symposium will also provide you a great
chance to experience the unique culture of the ancient Shilla Dynasty
which had lasted for thousand years (57 BC - 935 AD).  Kyongju was
the capital of the Dynasty and has many royal tombs, pagodas,
statues, temples, and other historical sites which all bear witness
to the grandeur of the Shilla culture.

I am sure that you will accept my cordial invitation to this
conference and I look forward to seeing you in Kyongju.

          Chung Yup Kim
          President, Pacific Polymer Federation
          Chairman, PPC-5 Organizing Committee

involving the Pacific.  Current members are polymer associations of
Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea,
Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the
United States(ACS and APS)and Vietnam.
The First Pacific Polymer Conference was held with a big success
in Maui, Hawaii, USA in 1989.  The second, third and fourth PPC were
held in Otsu, Japan; Gold Coast, Australia; and Kauai, Hawaii, USA.
The 6th Pacific Polymer Conference of the PPF is scheduled in the
