IPEC- Names New Polymer Ambassador - Gordon
Hahn
 
The Intersociety Polymer Education Council (IPEC) is
pleased to announce that Gordon Hahn has been named
Polymer Ambassador.  The Polymer Ambassador program
is intended to help highly skilled educators train other
teachers.  The term of the position will extend for three
years; each year he will receive $3,000.00 for materials
and expenses.
 
Gordon Hahn, who lives in Montana, is a past recipient of
the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and
Mathematics Teaching and a recipient of the Polymer
Division Award for Excellence in Polymer Education by a
High School Teacher.  In 1989 he received the UM/AWU
Montana Secondary Science Teacher of the Year Award.
Hahn successfully obtained computers for schools in the
entire Northwestern part of Montana and set up an
interlinked network allowing for science teachers to be able
to communicate via the computers.  He personally trained
each of the teachers so they could use the technology.
Additionally, his classroom experiments are truly unique
(based on his training experience obtained at the materials
labs of Dow Chemical) and have helped others to develop
scientific knowledge, as well as an ability to "experiment"
and "observe".
 
The IPEC is a non-profit organization comprised of
technical societies including the American Chemical
Society's Rubber and Polymer Divisions and the Society of
Plastics Engineers.  IPEC promotes educational aspects of
polymer-related industries to high, middle, and elementary
school teachers.  It is IPEC's mission to inform and educate
the work force and policy makers of tomorrow of the
importance of polymers, including rubber and plastics
through a grass roots effort.  IPEC has initiated two highly
successful programs;  - the Polymer Ambassadors Program
and the MaTR Institute.
 
The current Polymer Ambassadors are Marie Sherman,
Missouri; Bill Bleam, Pennsylvania; Rick Broniec,
Wisconsin; and Gordon Hahn, Montana.  Emeritus Polymer
Ambassadors are Melanie Stewart, Ohio; Sarah Allen,
North Carolina; and Ron Crampton, Nebraska.
 
The IPEC wishes to gratefully thank DuPont, Johnson
Controls, M.D. Domenick, ACS Corporation Associates,
and IPEC's member societies for their support of polymer
education through IPEC.
