Jan 27, 2018 announcement from the Industrial Advisory Board: The Industrial Advisory Board has recently announced a decision to increase the student award from $500 each to $750 each maintaining the same frequency of 2 awards per meeting, 4 per year.

In order to be considered for the award, a completed FULL application must be received (via email) by the deadline:  Monday, March 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm PST

 

 

• The ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry's Membership Committee sponsors a program to provide funding for polymer graduate students to travel to National ACS meetings to present the results of their research. Only members of the ACS AND the Division of Polymer Chemistry who currently study at U.S. institutions are eligible for this travel award.
  
• One $750 award will be based on merit and the other $750 award will be based on any applicant who will be making his/her first presentation (regardless of format) at a National ACS meeting.  In addition, financial need of the applicant will also be considered in the selection process.
  
• The award may be applied for registration, travel, and accommodations, and is restricted to the next ACS National Meeting. These awards will be limited to one per institution (school must be within the US).
  
• The deadline date for electronic receipt of applications for a specific meeting will be  Monday, March 19th, 2018 @ 5:00 pm PST
  
• To be eligible for this award, applications must be making a presentation at a sponsored Division of Polymer Chemistry symposium. This can be a joint symposium with another division, but POLY must be at least a co-sponsor.
  

 

In order to apply for the award, please send the following documents:

1. A resume (include permanent address AND YOUR GPA). Maximum 2 pages.

2. A cover letter (500 words max.) detailing the reasons you want this award (both scientific and financial) and outline your future career plans in the area of polymer chemistry.  It should be noted in the letter whether or not you have made a previous presentation at an ACS National Meeting (do not include regional or other technical meetings).

3. Include and highlight all First Author publications (refereed) and list other secondary publications as co-author.

4. A completed official application form that you may download above. 

5. A 500-word abstract on the research that will be submitted to the national meeting.

6. A letter from your advisor (1 page max) confirming your participation in the meeting at which you will be making your presentation, commenting on your technical ability and potential in the field of polymer science, and listing any other travel support that would be available from the department or research grants.

How to send these documents:

 

• All documents must be sent electronically and saved in a PDF format. Documents that require signatures must be scanned and saved as a PDF. No hard copies accepted.
• Label all files as: Last name_school_document.pdf (For example: Hopkins_UM_application.pdf)
• NO zip files in the e-mail will be accepted.
• All documents must be received before the deadline in order to be considered for the award.  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
