The POLY Graduate Student Video Award was establishment at the Fall 2014 National Meeting

The purpose of this award is to prepare young chemists to present their research in a short video/movie format and interact with a broad range of audiences, including more senior scientists and the general public.   It should be understood that the presentation should be geared toward a lay person.

• Nominations are open to current PhD students and post-docs.
• To be eligible, students should submit a 3-minute video describing their research to a non-technical person.

• Videos can be posted on youtube and the corresponding link can be submitted with the application.

• All submitted videos will be judged and 3 selected finalists will be asked to join POLY at POLY’s Awards Reception that occurs on Wednesday evening at the National ACS meeting.
• All videos will be evaluated and critiqued by the POLY awards subcommittee and feedback will be given to the students in either written or oral form.  All videos that are judged to be of “good” quality or better will be posted on the POLY website and made available to others.
• Videos from all of the finalists will be shown during the POLY’s Awards Reception.
• The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony and presented with a $250 prize.

To be considered for the award, the videos should be submitted to Polymer Division Business Office, Kathy Mitchem, Phone: 540-231-3029, e-mail:  kathyl@vt.edu .  Each video should be accompanied by (1) a one-page maximum PDF cover letter from the student that briefly describes the importance of conveying his/her particular research topic to the general public and (2) a letter from the student’s advisor stating his/her agreement that the video can be published online and shown at ACS-sponsored meetings, including POLY workshops and local, regional, and national meetings of the ACS.
