DISTINGUISHED and SPECIAL SERVICE AWARDS

Awardees

Deadline is January 31 of each year

Purpose:  The POLY Distinguished and Special Service Awards honor individuals whose professional accomplishments have made a significant and lasting impact on the Division of Polymer Chemistry (POLY). These individuals have not only fulfilled their duties and obligations for POLY, but gone above and beyond expectations. The POLY Distinguished Award is a high honor for those that have served POLY and the Special Service Award being the highest honor presented in the Division for service to POLY. This award consists of a plaque that will be presented during the ACS National meeting (either spring or fall of the award year depending on awardees availability) during the POLY/PMSE award symposium.

Nomination Procedure:  Nominations for these awards should be sent electronically to the current Chair of the Division from any member of the POLY Executive Committee with a brief explanation of the merits of the case by 31 January every year. Endorsements from more than one Executive Committee member is encouraged. A nomination letter should include examples of specific accomplishments that demonstrate the nominee has exceeded expectations while serving the Division of Polymer Chemistry. Typically, one or two distinguished service awards are given every year depending on the number and quality of the nominations. However, there is no requirement that one of these awards be conferred every year. A member must receive the Distinguished Award before being considered for the Special Service Award.

Nomination Committee:  The POLY Chair will review nominations and select the especially meritorious cases (if any) by 15 February every year. Then the Chair will share his or her intentions with the Executive Committee for final approval/endorsement. A vote of the Executive Committee will be taken only in the unusual circumstance that consensus cannot be reached. Any awardee(s) should be notified prior to 1 March every year.
