1996 Awardee
Ann B. Salamone, of AM Products, will receive a Division of Polymer Chemistry Distinguished Service Award. Ann Salamone will be recognized for her service to the Division as Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman-Elect, and Chairman as well as her efforts in organizing the Intersociety Polymer Education Task Force, where she is currently serving as Treasurer. This award was presented at the awards banquet in New Orleans.
1999 Awardee
James E. McGrath, Ethyl Chaired Professor of Chemistry and Director, Center for High Performance Polymeric Adhesives and Composites at Virginia Tech is a 1999 winner of the Division of Polymer Chemistry Distinguished Service Award. Jim McGrath will be recognized for his service to the Division as Vice Chairman, Chairman-Elect, and Chairman (1986) as well as his efforts in organizing a series of outstanding Division workshops. Jim was also the reciepient of the 1996 Herman F. Mark, Division of Polymer Chemistry Award.
The Distinguished Service award will be presented at the awards banquet in Anaheim.
2001 Awardee
William Daly, of the University of Louisiana, and Robson F. Storey, and Robert B. Moore, of the University of Mississippi, received 2001 Division of Polymer Chemistry Distinguished Service Awarda. Bill was recognized for his service to the Division as Treasurer, Vice Chairman, Chairman-Elect, and Chairman as well as his efforts in International Activities including the POLY Millennial. Rob and Bob served as Polymer Preprints editors and were prime contributors in converting preprints to an electronic format. This award was presented at the awards reception in San Diego.
2002 Awardee
Frank D. Blum, of the University of Missouri-Rolla, received the 2002 Division of Polymer Chemistry Distinguished Service Award. Frank was recognized for his service to the Division as Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman-Elect, and Chairman as well as his efforts in organizing the POLY web pages and the POLY Electronic Discussion list. This award was presented at the awards reception in Orlando.
2005 Awardee
Thomas J. Pacansky of Apollo Ventures and H. N. Cheng of Hercules, Inc. were awarded 2005 Distinguished Service Awards. Tom was recognized for his outstanding service as awards chair, treasurer, and chair (2000). H.N was recognized for his service including dedicated service to membership including numerous membership initiatives. These award was presented at the awards reception in Washington.
POLY saluted its invaluable volunteer, Frederick R. Dammont for his service as the Polymer Division Circulation Manager. Dr. Dammont has contributed to the successful circulation of POLY Preprints to Library’s for over 30 years. Since taking the office in 1979, he has collected more than ONE MILLION dollars for Polymer Preprint Library Subscriptions.
POLY salutes its invaluable volunteer, Warren Ford, Oklahoma State University, in recognition of his contributions to the success of regional meetings. Dr. Ford began working on regional meeting programs in 2001, after he served as Program Chair 1998-2000. He worked with regional meeting program organizers to encourage them to hold first rate polymer symposia and arranging seed money to support keynote speakers in their symposia.

POLY salutes its invaluable volunteers and staff for their outstanding service to the Division. The following received the Distinguished Service Award at the Fall National meeting in Denver. John Pochan, Cornell University, for his outstanding contributions as POLY Councilor; Dana Garcia, Arkema, Inc., for her long standing organization and chairing of the General Sessions at the National meetings; and Kate Beers, NIST, for her invaluable contributions as POLY treasurer.
Pal Arjunan, Albemarle Corp., received the 2012 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of outstanding Polymer Division workshop organization. Ulrich S. Schubert, Friedrich-Schiller-Universitaet Jena, received the POLY Distinguished Service Award. These were presented at the POLY/PMSE Awards Reception, 5:30pm-8pm, Horizon Rooftop Ballroom, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Philadelphia ACS meeting.

Christine Landry-Coltrain, Eastman kodak Company, received the the 2013 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of dedication to the POLY website development and implementation.
This award was presented at the POLY/PMSE Awards Reception, Spring ACS meeting, April 10, 2013 in New Orleans.
Kristi Kiick (University of Delaware), Jeff Linhardt (Google, Inc.), and Greg Tew (University of Massachusetts-Amherst) received the 2013 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of creating and
establishing the “Special Plenary Session” held at the ACS National Meetings. This has become the highest attended POLY and PMSE event during the ACS National Meeting.
These awards were presented at the POLY/PMSE Awards Reception, Fall ACS meeting, September 11, 2013 in Indianapolis.

Congratulations to the 2014 winners of the POLY Distinguished Service Award: Judy Riffle (Virginia Tech) and Krzystof Matyjaszewski (Carnegie Mellon) University.
Krzysztof Matyjaszewski received the award in recognition of exceptional leadership in organization of the controlled radical polymerization symposium. This symposium has become a highly attended event during the ACS National Meeting and is held every other year. This award was presented at the POLY/PMSE Awards Reception at the Spring ACS meeting in Dallas at the Hyatt Regencyon March 19, 2014.
Judy Riffle received the award in recognition of outstanding and sustained leadership in workshop organization and coordination. This award was presented at the POLY/PMSE Awards Reception at the Fall ACS meeting in San Francisco, August, 2014.

Congratulations to the 2015 winners of the POLY Distinguished Service Award. Sarah Morgan (University of Southern Mississippi),received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award at the Denver Spring ACS meeting in recognition of “Outstanding Polymer Division Programming & Undergraduate Education”.
At the 2015Fall ACS meeting in Boston, Buddy Ratner (Univ. of Washington), was recognized for outstanding and sustained leadership in workshop organization and coordination, and Ken Carter (Univ. of Massachusetts-Amherst) was recognized for outstanding organization of the Polymer Division Award Series.

Congratulations to the 2016 winners of the POLY Distinguished Service Award. Kathy Mitchem received the 2016 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of Outstanding Leadership and Exceptional Service to the POLY Business Office. Kathy has worked in the POLY Business office, located at Virginia Tech, for more than 15 years. She was recently recognized for 25 years of continuous employment at Virginia Tech. The award was presented at the San Diego, CA Spring ACS meeting.

Charles Carraher (Florida Atlantic University) and John Droske (University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point) received a joint POLY/PMSE Distinguished Service Award at the 2016 Philadelphia Fall ACS meeting for their outstanding and sustained leadership of PMSE/POLY’s Educational Initiatives.
During their many years of service they have led and sponsored polymer education and outreach at all levels, and have particularly impacted undergraduate students. Their efforts in curriculum development, textbooks, awards and symposia have raised the understanding of polymer chemistry in the society, and have resulted in inclusion of polymer topics in the ACS certified curriculum. Countless students have been impacted by POLYEd, and have been encouraged to pursue graduate studies in polymer science.

1999 Awardee
Eli M. Pearce, Professor of Chemistry, Polytechnic University is a 1999 winner of the Division of Polymer Chemistry Special Service Award. Eli Pearce will be recognized for his service to the Division as Vice Chairman, Chairman-Elect, and Chairman (1980), his efforts as Division Councilor (since 1982), leadership in the Polymer Education Committee (later POLYED) and Election to the ACS Board of Directors (1999).. Eli was also the reciepient of the 1992 Paul F. Flory, Polymer Education Award and the 1991 Division Distinguished Service Award.
The Special Service Award will be presented at the awards banquet in Anaheim.
2003 Awardee
In recognition of continued dedicated service to the Division of Polymer Chemistry, James E. McGrath, Virginia Tech, was presented the POLY Special Service Award during the 2003 New York ACS National Meeting. Jim's continued service with organization of POLY workshops saw it's culmination with record breaking attendance at the "Fuel Cells Membranes" workshop earlier this year. His pioneering work in this regard is of great importance. In addition, he has organized other heavily attended workshops including Polyolefins, Polyurethanes, and Condensation Polymers. These workshops have greatly benefited POLY and attracted polymer scientists and managers to participate in POLY activities. Not only has he chosen great topics of scientific and technological importance, but he always does a superb job in raising funds for these meetings.
POLY salutes its invaluable volunteer, Frank Blum, Oklahoma State University, in recognition of his contributions to the success of the POLY Web Site. Dr. Blum created the website in 1995 and served as the web master for 15 years. During this time he also created and managed the POLY List Serv (electronic discussion list) providing a medium for distributing polymer related information. Dr. Blum has supported POLY in many offices including POLY Chair 1999, Chair-Elect 1998, Vice Chair 1997, and Secretary 1989-95, and was recognized as a POLY Fellow in 2010.
Ann Salamone, Rochal Industries, was recognized with the Special Service Award in recognition of her outstanding service to the Industrial Advisory Board.
Neta L. Byerly, Polymer Chemistry Division, was recognize for her 30 years of service at Virginia Tech and outstanding service as POLY Business Office Manager.

2003 Awardee
In recognition of outstanding contributions to divisional educational activities of the Polymer Chemistry Division and the Division of Polymer Materials: Science and Engineering, Ann Beal Salamone was presented the Excellence in Service Award. Ann's award was presented at a reception held at the Fall ACS National Meeting in New York on September 7, 2003.
Ann's dedication to POLYED has been exemplary over the years. Her work with the Polymer Ambassadors in New Orleans was inspiring. She was largely responsible for the organization of the K-12 workshop affiliated with the symposium "The Polymer Science of Everyday Things". Ann played a leadership role as part of the group of organizers who raised $34K for participant support. She arranged Web casting and participation of 25 teachers in the New Orleans and another 25 in the Akron area through the World Polymer Academy.
