Improving the Public Perception of Polymers

This award was discontinued in 2005 

In 1990 the Industrial Sponsors Group of the Polymer Division of the American Chemical Society initiated a grant program to encourage projects aimed at the improvement of the image of polymers in the eyes of the general public. Over the past years grants have been made to groups for innovative approaches to this objective.

Successful proposals in this competitive process will receive a grant of up to $10,000, generally over a three-year period

Project proposals will be evaluated by a panel selected by the Industrial Sponsors Coordinating Committee.

Proposals must be received at the following address on or before September 15, 2001.

The Industrial Sponsors Group of the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry has announced the 1996 awardees in its program to improve the public's perception of polymers. A grant of $10,000, to be paid over a three year period, has been made to Dr. Richard Stein of the University of Massachusetts and Ms Valerie Wilcox of the National Plastics Center and Museum in Leominster, Massachusetts. The grant is for the purpose of the development and production of a series of videotapes to further the understanding of polymers in modern society.

This is the fifth annual grant awarded by the Industrial Sponsors Group, which consists of nearly 40 companies which support the educational and public outreach activities of the Division of Polymer Chemistry.

New Proposals Solicited For 1996

In 1990 the industrial Sponsors Group of the Polymer Division of the American Chemical Society initiated a grant program to encourage projects aimed at the improvement of the image of polymers in the eyes of the general public. Over, the past years, grants have been made to groups for innovative approaches towards this objective.

Once again this year, the group is soliciting proposals for consideration of funding for the sixth year of this program.

 

The guidelines are:

1) The proposals should be for programs that will improve the image of polymers or improve the understanding of the importance of polymers to life today
2) The successful proposals in this competitive process will receive a grant of up to $10,000, generally over a three year period.
3) The proposals will be evaluated on the basis of objective, impact and originality. The proposals should be as detailed as necessary in order to convey the objective, approaches to be implemented, the action plan and timetable.
4) While the amount of the award will depend upon the needs and the extent of the program, evidence of cosponsorship, potential for cost sharing or additional funding should be included, as this can effect the feasibility of the projects.

Project proposals will be evaluated by a panel selected by the Industrial Sponsors Coordinating Committee.

Proposals must be received on or before September 1, 1996.

Public Perception of Polymers The Industrial Sponsors Group of the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry has announced the 1994 awardees in its program to improve the public's perception of polymers. A grant of $10,000, to be paid over a three year period, has been made to "The Science Alliance", a Delaware group which is dedicated to providing resources and training to science educators in the Delaware area. The grant is for the purpose of the development and supply of Polymer Science Kits to schools to further the understanding of polymers in modern society.

 

This is the fourth annual grant awarded by the Industrial Sponsors group, made up of nearly 40 companies which support the educational and public outreach activities of the Polymer Chemistry Division. Previous awardees were Linda Woodward of the University of Southeast Louisiana and Marie Sherman of Ursaline Academy in St.JLouis for the development of a series of polymer workshops, Dr.JJohn Andrade of the University of Utah. for the development of a FAX network to deliver polymer information to every science teacher in every school in the state, every week, and J.JMakanski and T.JCoolbaugh for the development of a polymer lifetime workshop.
