The divisions of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering and Polymer Chemistry are pleased to announce that Valerie V. Sheares is the winner of the 1995 Sherwin-Williams Student Award in Applied Polymer Science. This Award, sponsored by the Sherwin-Williams Company and administered through the Joint Polymer Education Committee of PMSE and POLY, is given annually for the best paper presented in the Sherwin-Williams Award Symposium as part of the PMSE program at the Fall ACS meeting.
Valerie recently graduated with a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where her advisor was Professor Joseph M. DeSimone. The title of her paper, which was presented at the recent Fall ACS meeting in Chicago IL, was "Thiophene-Based Materials: Poly (arylene ether ketone)s and Poly(imide arylene ether) Statistical Copolymers".
The other finalists who presented papers in the Award Symposium were:

The Award consisting of $500 plus a plaque, will be presented to Valerie at the Division luncheon at the ACS Spring Meeting in New Orleans.
The winner of the 1996 award is H. Y. Low of Case Western Reserve University whose work was entitled: "Polybenzoxazines: Expanding Phenolic Resin with Structural Applications." The paper was presented in the Sherwin-Williams Award Symposium at the ACS meeting in Orlando, Florida, August 25-30, 1996.

Shu Yang is the winner of the 1999 ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science. This Award, sponsored by ICI and administered through the Joint Polymer Education Committee of the ACS Divisions of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) and Polymer Chemistry (POLY), is given annually for the best paper presented at the ICI Award Symposium as part of the PMSE program at the Fall ACS Meeting.
Shu was a graduate student from Cornell University, where her advisor was Professor Christopher Ober. The title of his paper, which was presented at the recent Fall ACS Meeting in New Orleans, LA, was "Improving Resist Performance with Block-Copolymer Additives".

The Award, consisting of $750 plus a plaque, was presented to Shu at the PMSE Division luncheon at the ACS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, CA.
The POLYED ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science, chaired by Elsa Reichmanis, reports that Ms. Amy K. Poshusta (Burkoth) was selected as the recipient of the year 2000 ICI Student Award based on her presentation at the Fall ACS Meeting in Washington, D. C. Amy was a graduate student from the University of Colorado, where her advisor was Professor Kristi S. Anseth. The title of her paper was "Photocurable Polyanhydrides Engineering for Orthopaedic Applications".
The Award was presented to Dr. Poshusta at the PMSE Division Awards Luncheon on Monday, March 30, 2001, in San Diego.

Brian E. Priore was the winner of the 2001 ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science. Brian was a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University where his advisor was Professor Lynn M. Walker. The Award, consisting of $750 and a plaque, was presented to Dr. Priore at the PMSE Division Awards Luncheon on Monday, April 8, 2002, at the Rosen Center Hotel.

Jinsang Kim is the winner of the 2002 ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science. This Award, sponsored by ICI and administered through the Joint Polymer Education Committee of the ACS Divisions of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) and Polymer Chemistry (POLY), is given annually for the best paper presented at the ICI Award Symposium as part of the PMSE program at the Fall ACS Meeting.
Dr. Kim is a recent graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology where his advisor was Professor Timothy M. Swager. The title of his paper, which was presented at the recent Fall ACS Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, was "Funneling Fluorescence Energy via Vectorial Energy Transfer Within Conjugated Polymer Thin Films".

The chair for 2003 is Thoman Hahn of National Starch. Six finalists have been selected among 13 applicants for the 2003 ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science. This Award, sponsored by ICI and administered through the Joint Polymer Education Committee of the ACS Divisions of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) and Polymer Chemistry (POLY), is given annually for the best paper presented at the ICI Student Award Symposium as part of the PMSE program at the Fall ACS Meeting.

The Division is pleased to announce that Kelly A. Burke is the winner of the 2007 ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science. This Award, which is sponsored by ICI and administered through the Joint Polymer Education Committee of the ACS Divisions of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) and Polymer Chemistry (POLY), is given annually for the best paper presented at the ICI Award Symposium as part of the PMSE program at the Fall ACS Meeting.
Ms. Burke is a Ph.D. candidate at Case Western Reserve University where her advisor is Professor Patrick T. Mather. The title of her paper, which was presented at the recent Fall ACS Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, was "Liquid Crystalline Co-Elastomers Displaying One Way Shear Shape Memory".
