2011 Herman F. Mark Award Winner

The Herman F. Mark award recognizes outstanding research and leadership in Polymer Science and is sponsored by Elsevier. Named after Herman F. Mark (1895-1992), one of the fathers of polymer science, it is the highest honour given by ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry, awarded once every two years.

Krzysztof (Kris) Matyjaszewski, the J.C. Warner Professor of the Natural Sciences at the Carnegie Mellon University, received the 2011 Herman F. Mark Award.  The award was presented at the 2012 Spring ACS meeting in San Diego.

Professor Matyjaszewsi was recognized as an outstanding polymer chemist who is highly regarded for his vision, his leadership in education and his many collaborative research efforts that have yielded significant innovations in polymer chemistry. He is perhaps best known for the discovery of atom radical transfer polymerization (ATRP), a novel method of polymer synthesis that has revolutionized the way macromolecules are made. He has won a long list of prestigious awards for his work. In 1995, the Division of Polymer Chemistry awarded Kris the Carl S. Marvel Creative Polymer Chemistry Award. Kris is Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Polymer Science and Editorial Board Member of polymer.
